Learn more about what Apecos Rwanda is about and what motivates us to love and act
APECOS (Association de Prise en Charge des Orphelins du Sida) is an association present in the neighboring countries of Rwanda, such as Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Based on their experiences and their respective successes, and after the sad observation that children orphaned by AIDS lacked associations to help them in Rwanda, they decided to create APECOS-Rwanda in 2003. It was not until March 2006 that the final approval was given to start operating.
With 4 workers, APECOS started operating with 7 beneficiaries and from then on the numbers kept increasing. As of 2020, we have assisted 834 children with their education and have assisted some of their families with job creation through our different programs.
Our approach is based on greater involvement of beneficiaries and the integration of their real concerns at the heart of our actions in order to ensure the success and sustainability of our interventions. With this in mind, our actions mainly concern prevention, schooling, psycho-social, medical, financial and material care for orphaned children and the creation of income generating activities for foster families with a view to promoting financial empowerment to meet the educational, clothing, medical and nutritional needs of the children and orphans.
